A Bio of sorts

I turned 50 on March 1st 2011. I had decided several years ago that this hurdle would be marked by a  BIG party with friends, and a long trip across the USA. The party has been had… and friends from all over including the USA and Holland flew in for the gig. My partner David pulled off a wonderful event.  In a month or so I will once again travel across the Atlantic, visit the wonderful city that is NYC, and then move on to tour the west coast and end up in Las Vegas. I used to say life began at 40… and in many ways it did for me, but I have found 50 to be a wonderful and joyous point in my life.

In short I am gay, a father, partnered to a wonderful man for some 10 yrs now and  live in Ards in N Ireland in a beautiful old Victorian pile. My son who is 21 still lives with us.. and our two dogs. I have been retired for 6 years now and previously served as a police officer and before that a scientist and administrator. I went to University, in 1979 and studied Environmental Science which remains a matter close to mine (and all our hearts now!).

I volunteer within the Lgbt community, currently at a more strategic level, but I am soon to ‘retire’ from that and then pick and choose what I want to do as a volunteer. I tried for 2 years to write the couple of books I had always planned to tackle once I retired, but found in the end that it just wasn’t working for me. I was encouraged by a dear friend to consider poetry, and finally found my voice, and haven’t looked back. I will post some of that here.

Like so many I have succumbed to the force of nature that is Facebook and if you search under my name (vince creelan), well I am the only one, nearly the last of a dying clan.

I am well-travelled, and would love to settle in the USA, but N Ireland is a beautiful place. My profile header is a Lough and Crannog up on the North Coast, a place I am in love with, the one posted here is the view from it over the Irish Sea to Scotland.

Ah, the snow of Scottland. We didn’t get to see it this time through the mist, but Brian and I imagined we could spot a little bit of land over there at one point. Thank you for personally taking us to some of your favorite places, and especially that hike to Fair Head. You managed to keep the rain off us, but even that would have been a joy to experience. I miss you much and will be keeping in touch here and on Facebook constantly.
